The national weather center issued the warning to Tuoi Tre (Youth) online newspaper on Tuesday, outlining the expected developments of the ongoing heavy-rain spell in central Vietnam.
The combination of cold air, the northern edge of the intertropical convergence zone extending across the south-central region, and strengthening upper-level easterly disturbances will bring moderate to heavy rain.
Localities from Quang Tri to Quang Ngai are likely to experience torrential downpours from now until Thursday.
In Quang Tri Province, rainfall is expected to reach 50-250 mm, with some areas receiving more than 300 mm.
Hue City and Da Nang City are forecast to receive 150-350 mm, with some locations potentially recording more than 500-600 mm.
Quang Ngai is expected to see precipitation of up to 300 mm.
Heavy rain across central Vietnam is likely to remain complicated and persist through October 10 or 11.
On October 9 and 10, the heavy rain is expected to expand northward.
Provinces and cities from Nghe An to Hue could experience moderate to heavy rain, with some areas seeing torrential rain and thunderstorms.
Da Nang and Quang Ngai are also forecast to have rain or moderate rain, with isolated areas receiving heavy downpours.
By October 11, the rain is forecast to gradually weaken and become concentrated mainly in areas from southern Quang Tri to Quang Ngai.
The peak of the heavy-rain spell is forecast for Wednesday and Thursday, according to the center.
Rain is expected to be relatively evenly distributed throughout each day.
However, periods from night through early morning could see more intense rainfall.
