The National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting reported that some areas experienced torrential rain.
Rainfall totals exceeding 100 mm were recorded in Phu Tho, Dien Bien, and Nghe An Provinces. Some locations in Thanh Hoa and Ha Tinh Provinces received around 70 mm each.
The cold front is forecast to continue spreading to other parts of northern Vietnam and central localities from Thanh Hoa to Hue on Monday.
Temperatures in the northeastern region and Thanh Hoa are expected to drop to 19-22 degrees Celsius, while mountainous areas could see temperatures of 14 to 17 degrees Celsius.
The cold front will also bring more rain to the Red River Delta and northwestern areas, where rainfall is forecast at 15 to 30 mm, with localized totals surpassing 90 mm.
Thanh Hoa through Ha Tinh will see moderate showers and thunderstorms, with some areas receiving more than 100 mm.
From Monday night through Tuesday, heavy rain is expected to shift farther into central Vietnam, with localized downpours of over 150 mm forecast in areas from Ha Tinh to Hue.
From Tuesday night through Wednesday, Quang Tri to Da Nang and eastern Quang Ngai Province may see rainfall of 40-80 mm, with several areas getting more than 200 mm. Rain may persist in the following days.
The agency warned of thunderstorms accompanied by whirlwinds, lightning, hail, and strong gusts damaging crops, trees, houses, and infrastructure.
Heavy rain could trigger flash floods in small rivers and streams, landslides on slopes, and flooding in low-lying urban areas.
