Beyond drawing laughs for her witty responses, the vendor surprised him with her spontaneous singing and confident English communication.

A random fruit song

The clip, titled 'Mango pineapple banana,' was posted by Local Lou, a British tourist.

It opens with him approaching the vendor and greeting her with a simple “Hello.”

Instead of replying with a routine greeting, the woman immediately sang: “Hello, is it me you’re looking for?” from Lionel Richie’s 1984 hit 'Hello.'

Her playful response left the tourist laughing in delight. But that was only the beginning.

She then introduced her products in an unexpected way, singing “Mango, pineapple, banana, watermelon” like a rhythmic tune.

Though only a few short lines were exchanged, her intonation, facial expressions, and confidence transformed an ordinary sales pitch into a lively 'performance' on a crowded beach.

Part of a clip capturing Mai’s energy was posted by Local Lou on his Instagram.

As Tuoi Tre (Youth) newspaper has learned, the fruit vendor’s name is Mai and she lives in Bac Nha Trang Ward.

Mai said she has been selling fruit on the beach for 30 years.

Most of her English singing lines are improvised. She has learned basic conversational English over time through years of interacting with foreign tourists.

Meanwhile, this is not the first clip Lou has captured Mai with the energy.

Speaking to Tuoi Tre, Lou said he first met Mai in August 2025 while relaxing with friends on Nha Trang Beach.

As they were sunbathing, she came over to sell fruit and one of his friends recorded their conversation. That clip has hit more than 5.3 million views on Instagram.

“She told us she had appeared in several videos filmed by tourists before, though I didn’t know about them at the time,” Lou said.

During a recent return visit to Nha Trang to see friends, he happened to meet her again.

“Many of my friends wanted to see the fruit vendor again on social media, so I thought I should make another video,” he added.
