The complex will cover about 186.7 hectares and is designed to meet standards for hosting events such as the Southeast Asian Games and the Asian Games.

Nguyen Loc Ha, permanent deputy chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee, said the project forms part of the city's plan to expand urban infrastructure and support regional development.

The main stadium will have a capacity of between 65,000 and 75,000 seats, making it the second-largest in Vietnam after the 135,000-seat Trong Dong Stadium under construction in Hanoi, and the largest in the southern region.

The project's total investment is estimated at about VND145.6 trillion

Sun Group, the project's investor, said it would commit resources to ensure construction quality and timelines.

The site is located at the eastern gateway of Ho Chi Minh City and connects to major transport routes, including Vo Nguyen Giap and Mai Chi Tho Boulevards and the Ho Chi Minh City–Long Thanh–Dau Giay Expressway leading to Dong Nai Province and the under-construction Long Thanh International Airport.

In addition to the main stadium, the complex will include an indoor arena with about 18,000 seats, an aquatic sports center with around 4,000 seats, and other sports and public facilities, authorities said.
