The 11.3-kilometer metro line starts at the central Ben Thanh Station, runs along Cach Mang Thang Tam and Truong Chinh Streets, and in this phase ends at Tan Binh Station, said Phan Cong Bang, director of the Ho Chi Minh City Management Authority for Urban Railways, the project’s main investor.
These corridors currently experience some of the city’s heaviest traffic volumes, placing constant pressure on road infrastructure.
Metro line No. 2 is positioned as a vital radial axis connecting downtown Ho Chi Minh City with the northwest, supporting long-term urban restructuring and sustainable public transport development.
Bang acknowledged the close coordination among municipal departments and local authorities, noting that the former Department of Transport, now the Department of Construction, works closely with the Management Authority for Urban Railways to keep the project on track.
He also expressed appreciation for residents living along the route who endure disruptions during construction.

Addressing the ground-breaking ceremony, vice-chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee Bui Xuan Cuong emphasized that beyond technical and quality requirements, metro line No. 2 will pass through major arteries and central wards.
The vice-chairman instructed the project’s investors and contractors to ensure progress, safety and efficiency, with a target completion year of 2030.
Cuong called on project stakeholders, including consultants and construction contractors, to uphold strict technical standards, comply with construction regulations, protect the environment, and ensure labor, traffic and social safety for nearby communities.

City departments are tasked with expediting planning, appraisal and approval procedures to shorten timelines for metro line No. 2 and related urban development projects.
Local authorities in wards along the route are urged to strengthen public communication, build consensus among residents, enhance community supervision, and promptly resolve issues to avoid delays.
