The structure is expected to become a major multi-functional performance hub within the Phu Tho sports and cultural complex.

The project, invested in and built under the direction of the Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee, is seen as an important milestone in completing the city’s modern cultural infrastructure.

City officials expect it to strengthen Ho Chi Minh City’s position as a dynamic cultural and artistic center for Vietnam and Southeast Asia.

Approved in 2019, the Phu Tho circus and multi-purpose performing arts theater broke ground on April 25, 2023 and topped out on September 6, 2024.

The investor is the city’s Management Board for Civil and Industrial Construction Investment Projects.

Located on Lu Gia Street in Phu Tho Ward, the project covers an area of about 10,000 square meters, with a total investment of approximately VND1.395 trillion (US$53 million).

The structure includes two basement levels and 12 above-ground floors, reaches a height of 57.5 meters, and offers nearly 29,500 square meters of total floor area.

At the heart of the project is a multi-purpose performance space designed to meet the stringent technical requirements of circus arts as well as contemporary performance forms.

After more than two years of construction, the main building works have been completed.

The project has now entered a testing stage, with integrated trials of mechanical and electrical systems, sound, lighting, and stage technology to ensure smooth and safe operation before opening.

Under the municipal administration's assignment, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Culture and Sports, together with its affiliated Ho Chi Minh City Arts Center, will directly manage and operate the facility once it becomes operational.

Among the systems currently undergoing trial operation, architectural lighting plays a key role in defining the building’s nighttime appearance.

The lighting package meets both aesthetic and technical requirements expected of a large-scale multi-purpose performance complex.

Lighting solutions for the project were implemented with the participation of Signify Vietnam, a company that has previously contributed to major landmarks such as Tan Son Nhat Airport’s Terminal T3, the Ba Son Bridge in downtown Ho Chi Minh City, the Nguyen Hoang Bridge in Hue City, and the Nhat Tan Bridge in Hanoi.

According to Signify Vietnam representatives, lighting a multi-purpose performance venue requires not only visual appeal but also strict standards for safety, durability, and long-term operational flexibility.

The selected solutions aim to provide even illumination and high color-rendering quality suitable for artistic performances, while minimizing glare and supporting both indoor and outdoor use.

For building facades and open spaces, architectural floodlights are used to highlight the structure’s form at night while maintaining glare control appropriate for a dense urban setting.

Flexible LED strip lighting is applied in key areas to outline architectural features, guide movement, and enhance overall recognition.

The entire system is designed to ensure safety and uniformity in a public space expected to host large crowds.
