Duc praised the longstanding solidarity Cuba has shown Vietnam during its struggle for national liberation and development.
He stressed that Vietnamese people, including those in Ho Chi Minh City, deeply value that support and will continue to stand shoulder to shoulder with Cuba.
As Vietnam’s economic hub, Ho Chi Minh City prioritizes cooperation with Cuba, especially in education and healthcare.
Bilateral trade between the Vietnamese city and the Caribbean nation in 2024 expanded 9.8 percent year on year and is expected to rise further in 2025.
Duc highlighted the success of the fundraising campaign ‘65 Years of Vietnam-Cuba Solidarity,’ which has so far raised more than VND400 billion (US$15 million) in donations, with contributions still increasing.
“Whenever Cuba is in need, Ho Chi Minh City is always ready,” he affirmed.
For his part, Lopez expressed gratitude for the Vietnamese people’s affection and solidarity, calling Ho Chi Minh City a symbol of support for Cuba.
He added he was particularly impressed by the massive turnout at Vietnam’s recent 80th National Day celebrations, which showcased the nation’s unity and strength.
