Ho Chi Minh City police said on Wednesday that its task force had coordinated with relevant agencies to receive 42 Vietnamese citizens deported from the U.S. through Noi Bai International Airport in Hanoi.

According to the Ho Chi Minh City Police Department's Immigration Office, this is the sixth group of Vietnamese citizens deported from the U.S. that city authorities have received this year.

Most of those in the latest group had lived in Ho Chi Minh City before leaving Vietnam.

While in the U.S., they violated local laws or no longer met the requirements for lawful residence and were subsequently deported to Vietnam.

After spending a long time away from Vietnam, some faced difficulties obtaining identity documents, contacting relatives, finding accommodation, and securing jobs after returning.

Some had no relatives able to receive them, had lost contact with their families for an extended period, or were elderly and in poor health.

In such cases, Ho Chi Minh City police reviewed their circumstances, identified their places of residence and relatives, and coordinated with relevant agencies to provide assistance.

For those who could not contact their relatives, had no stable accommodation or were facing particularly difficult circumstances, the task force worked with ward-level authorities, local police and the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Health to arrange temporary care at social assistance facilities in the city.

According to Ho Chi Minh City police, the deportation of Vietnamese citizens from foreign countries remains an issue as many countries tighten immigration controls.

Police officers advised Vietnamese citizens studying, working, traveling or settling abroad to learn about and comply with local laws, and refrain from illegal entry or exit, unlawful residence or employment, using forged documents, or assisting illegal schemes to take people abroad.

Such violations can expose individuals to arrest, deportation and long-term or permanent entry bans, while also affecting the reputation of the Vietnamese community and making visa issuance by foreign countries stricter and more difficult for Vietnamese citizens.

Ho Chi Minh City police said they would continue to carry out the reception of deported citizens effectively, going beyond the handover procedures to provide support and help them stabilize their lives after returning.

Police officers will also step up measures to prevent and combat violations of the law and threats to national security and public order arising from the exploitation of repatriation and deportation procedures.
