Ho Chi Minh City police test drones to boost crime prevention

Ho Chi Minh City police on Wednesday conducted a pilot test of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) at the Saigon Hi-Tech Park, aiming to study their application to crime prevention, security management, and operational response across the city.

A city police delegation led by Lieutenant Colonel Bui Van Quoc, deputy head of the municipal police department’s advisory division, carried out a field survey and test flight session at the park site, in coordination with the Saigon High-Tech Park Management Board.

The working session also drew participation from leaders and officers of several specialized police units, including the advisory division, telecommunications and information technology unit, fire prevention and rescue police, traffic police, logistics and finance divisions.

Four major UAV companies, namely Robotics RtR, Linh Anh Quoc UAV, Founder UAV, and TDRONE, showcased advanced drone models equipped with modern technologies.

These UAVs are designed for surveillance and reconnaissance, search and rescue operations, command and control support.

Police officers had the opportunity to directly pilot the drones, observe their capabilities, and provide feedback.

Officers emphasized the need to refine technical features to better suit real-world policing requirements.

The adoption of UAVs is seen as a strategic step to enhance crime prevention, improve efficiency in urban area management, and reduce risks for officers during operations.
