From midday, long lines of vehicles stretched for kilometers at the southern gateway to the Vietnamese capital city.

Other major routes, including beltways and radial corridors, also saw heavy traffic, though congestion was cleared relatively quickly.

In the afternoon, crowds at major bus terminals such as My Dinh, Nuoc Ngam, and Giap Bat continued to grow.

According to a representative of the operator of the Phap Van - Cau Gie Expressway, the route was expected to handle around 130,000 vehicles on Sunday, equivalent to that during the Tet (Lunar New Year) holiday in February.

At around 2:15 pm, an accident caused temporary congestion in both directions on a southern gateway route into Hanoi.

Thirty minutes later, a heavy downpour added to the difficulties faced by commuters, making their journey more challenging.

According to Hanoi’s traffic police, plans to ensure traffic order and safety had been in place since May 3, with all officers deployed to key intersections and thoroughfares.

Traffic police units also worked closely with local authorities and transport inspectors to regulate traffic flow and maintain public safety.
