A section of Nguyen Van Khoi Street in Go Vap District, Ho Chi Minh City is heavily flooded.
The street used to be a nightmare for commuters due to frequent flooding, with water levels rising as high as motorcycle seats.
The root causes of the chronic flooding include small drainage pipes, low road elevation, and an overwhelming volume of rainwater funneled from nearby alleyways.
Many residents living along the road have resorted to building makeshift levees and piling up sandbags in an effort to keep floodwaters at bay.

Residents push their motorbikes through muddy water after just 30 minutes of rain.
Apart from flooding, the street has fallen into serious disrepair.
Potholes, patchwork fixes, and uneven surfaces have turned it into a hazard for both vehicles and pedestrians.
Nguyen Van Khoi Street will be elevated and outfitted with a new drainage system, upgraded manholes, sidewalks, and green landscaping, according to the Go Vap District People's Committee.
The project will be carried out in multiple phases to minimize disruption to daily life and business activities.
After the renovation, Nguyen Van Khoi Street is expected to become a key traffic corridor in the district, easing congestion on nearby Quang Trung Street, which is notorious for traffic jams.
Notably, the new drainage system will be connected to major pipelines along Le Van Tho and Pham Van Chieu Streets.
This integration is designed to form a closed drainage network, reducing pressure on downstream systems and contributing to broader flood mitigation efforts citywide.

Whenever it rains heavily, the stretch from Alley 362 to Cay Tram T-junction in Go Vap District becomes a vast expanse of water.
