The Quang Ninh Border Guard Command said on Saturday that it had coordinated with relevant forces to rescue the six crew members aboard the fishing boat and bring them ashore for emergency treatment.
According to initial information, at around 10:42 am on Friday, the cargo ship AROSA, sailing under the Liberian flag with 18 foreign crew members on board, was traveling from Singapore to Hon Gai Port in Quang Ninh City to discharge cargo when it collided with the Vietnamese fishing boat.
The collision occurred about two nautical miles east of Long Chau Island.
There were six crew members aboard the fishing boat at the time of the accident. The collision caused the vessel to sink, throwing all six people into the sea.
Upon receiving the report, local border guards and maritime administration deployed personnel and vessels to coordinate search and rescue efforts.
All six crew members were rescued and taken ashore before being transferred to Quang Ninh General Hospital for emergency treatment.
One crew member died, while the other five sustained injuries.
Authorities are continuing to investigate the cause of the accident.
