According to local authorities, the landslide occurred at dawn in Phan Dinh Phung Ward when soil and rocks from a nearby hillside suddenly collapsed, crushing part of the boarding house below.
Residents discovered the collapse and immediately alerted police and rescue forces.
The victim was pulled from the debris but was already unconscious and later pronounced dead at the hospital.
He was identified as V.V.S., a 21-year-old student at a local vocational school.
The boarding house is located at the base of a hill that had been saturated after days of heavy rain.
At the site, mud and rocks buried nearly the entire rented room, destroying personal belongings and furniture.

As of 7:30 pm on Tuesday, floods and landslides triggered by prolonged rain had killed three people and left three others missing in Thai Nguyen.
Many residential areas were submerged by several meters of water, isolating thousands of households that lost power, clean water, and food supplies.
Since Monday night, provincial authorities have mobilized hundreds of officers and specialized vehicles for emergency response.
The fire prevention and rescue police unit deployed its entire force.
In Dan Tien Commune of former Vo Nhai District, floodwaters cut off access, forcing families to climb onto rooftops to await rescue, while water levels reached four meters in some areas.
In Trai Cau Commune, rescuers had to cut through roofs to reach stranded residents.
In Quan Trieu Ward, civil defense forces evacuated hundreds of residents overnight as waters rose rapidly.
Authorities warned that rainfall and flooding are expected to remain severe in the coming days, with more than 300 substations damaged and over 200,000 households still without electricity.
