N2 overpass branch at An Phu Intersection opens to traffic in Ho Chi Minh City

The newly opened N2 overpass allows one-way traffic from the Ho Chi Minh City - Long Thanh - Dau Giay Expressway to turn right onto Mai Chi Tho Boulevard, said the authority, the investor of the project.

Bringing this branch into operation is expected to separate traffic flows entering the heart of the city from the expressway, thereby easing congestion and reducing traffic conflicts at An Phu Intersection.

The HC1-02 underpass is also scheduled to be opened to traffic before January 15.

The overpass and underpass are considered two key packages of the project.

Once in place, they are expected to resolve around 80 percent of the chronic congestion at the interchange.

Located at the eastern gateway of Ho Chi Minh City, An Phu Interchange connects directly with the Ho Chi Minh City - Long Thanh - Dau Giay Expressway and the under-construction Long Thanh International Airport.

The An Phu Intersection project carried a price tag of over VND 3.4 trillion (US$128.7 million) and got off the ground in 2022, with the original goal of full completion in 2025.

However, prolonged slow progress on several construction packages prompted the investor to propose a revised timeline, which was approved by the city, extending the overall completion deadline to the second quarter of 2026.

In September 2025, the chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee pointed out shortcomings that had led to delays and required the investor and related units to draw serious lessons to prevent similar issues.

The investor was also instructed to submit detailed progress commitments and take responsibility before the city leadership for meeting them.

Specific deadlines were set, requiring completion of the N2 overpass by December 31, 2025 and the HC1-02 underpass by January 15.

With the N2 branch opened in line with these requirements, the An Phu Interchange project is showing positive progress after a prolonged period of delays.
