Nearly 100 int’l volunteers join green summer campaign in Ho Chi Minh City

Among them, 48 members of Malaysia’s international volunteer student organization YSS will work in Kim Long Commune and the wards of Phu Loi and Trung My Tay.

Fifteen Indonesian youths will serve in Bau Lam Commune, while 30 volunteers from Laos and Cambodia will join local teams across the city.

Nguyen Dang Khoa, deputy secretary of the Ho Chi Minh City chapter of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union, expressed joy at hosting international students who share a passion for volunteerism.

He emphasized that the true value of these efforts lies not only in physical projects but also in the affection and appreciation shown by local residents toward the volunteers.

Khoa said the city’s welcoming environment will leave lasting impressions on international participants, spreading the spirit of volunteerism and strengthening friendship ties.

He expressed hope that the campaign will attract more young people worldwide to join future activities.

For many, this is their first time in Vietnam.

Umairah, a 20-year-old student from Malaysia, said she was excited to experience volunteering here and impressed by the friendliness of local people.

She hopes to contribute her energy while connecting with Vietnamese and international peers.

At the welcoming ceremony, YSS donated VND60 million (US$2,280) to support projects under the summer volunteer campaign.

The YSS team will build three facilities, including installing national flags and streetlights, painting murals, creating a playground, and developing a youth park, with each project valued at approximately VND20 million ($760) funded by the volunteers.

Besides, international volunteers will teach English, organize summer activities, host sports exchanges, paint murals, and hold cultural festivals to engage local children and residents.
