1 dead, 1 missing from same family after boat sinks in southern Vietnam

An official in the commune on Friday morning confirmed the sinking of the boat transporting construction materials.

According to initial reports, at around 2:30 am on the same day, locals heard cries for help coming from Luong The Tran Canal.

After discovering a sinking boat at a mooring site, they brought the victims ashore while notifying authorities.

Preliminary investigations showed at around 11:00 pm on Friday, the boat was anchored at a construction material unloading dock, waiting for high tide.

There were three people on board, including Duong Thi Bich Thuy, 34, her husband K., 46, and their six-year-old child, all from neighboring An Giang Province.

Following the incident, Thuy was taken to hospital for emergency treatment, while her husband was found dead.

The child remains missing.

The boat was suspected to have sprung a leak, leading to it sinking.

Authorities and relevant agencies are continuing search efforts and investigating the cause of the accident.
