China's Bestway Group, a sports products maker, inaugurated the first phase of its sports technology factory at the 13th Vietnam-Singapore Industrial Park in Can Tho City (VSIP Can Tho) on Saturday, making it the first factory to open at the park, according to the city's administration.

The Bestway Can Tho sports technology factory is equipped with automated production lines and an internationally certified environmental management system.

As the first factory at VSIP Can Tho, the facility manufactures inflatable toys, plastic toys, water sports equipment, plastic components and accessories for sports and entertainment products, as well as thermoplastic PVC sheets.

The products are exported to markets in North America, Europe and Japan.

The project has a total investment of VND2.6 trillion (nearly US$100 million) and covers about 28 hectares, with an annual production and processing capacity of more than 22 million products, according to Bestway.

Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, Le Cong Ly, standing deputy chairman of the Can Tho administration, said each newly opened factory was not only a new production facility but also represented a point when investors’ confidence was turned into assets, jobs, products and tangible economic value.

“Today’s event is significant not only for Bestway but also represents a positive signal for VSIP Can Tho and the process of forming a new industrial space in the city,” Ly stressed.

William Zhu, chairman and CEO of Bestway Group, said the factory would cover 130,000 square meters and create 6,000 jobs once all three phases are completed.

Its products are expected to be exported to more than 120 countries, he said.

According to the city’s administration, VSIP Can Tho, which is under construction, covers 293.7 hectares and has a total investment of more than VND3.717 trillion ($143 million).

Upon completion, the industrial park is expected to create 20,000-30,000 jobs for workers in Can Tho and neighboring provinces.

VSIP Can Tho is the 13th Vietnam-Singapore Industrial Park nationwide and the eighth industrial park in the southern city, some 150km southeast of Ho Chi Minh City.
