American tourist dies in suspected motorcycle accident on Son Tra Peninsula in Da Nang

The Son Tra Peninsula and Da Nang Tourist Beach Management Board confirmed that the victim, who was riding a manual-transmission Honda motorbike, was found deceased near the crash site shortly after 5:00 am on Hoang Sa Street, just below the Bai Bac Pass summit in Son Tra Ward.

According to VnExpress, local residents discovered the man lying near a drainage ditch alongside the damaged motorbike while out for morning exercise. 

Emergency responders, including a rescue team with eight firefighters and a medical crew from Da Nang's 115 emergency service, were dispatched to the scene but confirmed the victim had already died.

The motorbike had fallen into a rainwater drainage ditch, while the victim's body was found resting against a roadside guardrail. 

Police recovered personal documents identifying the man as a U.S. national temporarily residing in An Hai Ward, Da Nang.

Authorities conducted a scene investigation and removed the body and vehicle later in the morning. 

As of 10:00 am, the motorbike had been retrieved, and the victim's remains transferred for preservation while awaiting contact from family members.

Police believe the tourist may have lost control of the vehicle while descending the steep, winding road and crashed without any third-party involvement.

The Hoang Sa route, which winds through Son Tra Peninsula with coastal views on one side and forested slopes on the other, is popular among visitors. 

However, it is known for its sharp turns, blind curves, and steep inclines. 

The road can be especially hazardous during wet weather, with slippery surfaces and unprotected drops posing significant risks to drivers.

The exact cause of the accident is under investigation.
