Apple ramps up recruitment in Vietnam amid strategic expansion

U.S. tech giant Apple is beefing up its recruitment efforts in Vietnam, signaling a notable shift in its global strategy as the country becomes increasingly vital in its supply chain and operational ecosystem.

Since the start of 2025, Apple has posted some 60 job openings in Vietnam, marking a sharp increase compared to the previous year.

On Friday morning, Apple advertised the recruitment of new members for its operations and supply chain management in Hanoi.

Other Hanoi-based roles include supply chain specialists and design engineers, while in Ho Chi Minh City, Apple is recruiting staff for the posts as public relations manager, sales account manager, and PR manager.

The recruitment demonstrated Apple is expanding its operations and strengthening its workforce in Vietnam rather than relying on manufacturing cooperation with outsourcing partners.

Established in 2015, Apple Vietnam, headquartered at Deutsches Haus Tower in Ho Chi Minh City, specializes in general wholesale trade.

According to a recent report by Vietnam’s leading credit rating agency, FiinRatings, the electronics sector has become a cornerstone of the nation’s economy.

Foreign-led electronics accounted for 57 percent of Vietnam’s total export turnover.

Apple-related products make up nine percent of the sector’s exports, while Samsung-branded items represent 30 percent.

FiinRatings estimated that foreign-invested companies contribute 21.6 percent of Vietnam’s total revenue and 27.7 percent of its gross profit.

In particular, in the electronics industry, top-tier foreign firms account for nearly 40 percent of total revenue and 29 percent of total gross profit, underscoring the key role multinational tech firms like Apple play in the Vietnamese economy.

Key Apple suppliers in Vietnam include Fukang Technology (Foxconn), Luxshare-ICT (Vietnam), and Shunsin Technology Vietnam (Foxconn).

Despite the robust foreign direct investment (FDI)-driven supply chain, local content remains limited, accounting for less than one percent of input value in the electronics sector.

Most components are still imported or sourced from other FDI satellite companies.

Experts from FiinRatings emphasized that it is high time for Vietnam to upgrade its supply chain by increasing localization, investing in material and component manufacturing, and reducing trade risks while boosting competitiveness.

Apple CEO Tim Cook announced on May 1 that most iPhones sold in the U.S. between April and June would be shipped from India. Meanwhile, nearly all iPads, Macs, Apple Watches, and AirPods sold in the same period would originate from Vietnam, reported Nikkei Asia.

Cook cited the need to diversify supply chains in response to global trade uncertainties.

As such, Apple is accelerating its investments in Southeast Asia and India.

The company has been actively supporting suppliers in acquiring new machinery and increasing production capacity.

Suppliers have been instructed to manufacture most iPhones, MacBooks, and iPads for the U.S. market in India and Vietnam, while additional component production is being shifted to Thailand.
