-- Storm Matmo, the 11th storm to enter the East Vietnam Sea this year, made landfall in Fangcheng, Guangxi Province, China early on Monday morning and is expected to weaken into a tropical depression and then a low-pressure zone later in the day, while northern Vietnam braces for widespread heavy rainfall through Tuesday, according to Vietnam's national weather agency.

-- Border guards in Quang Tri Province on Sunday afternoon seized a tractor-trailer carrying up to 500kg of illicit drugs, mostly methamphetamine, smuggled from Laos into Vietnam. This is the largest drug bust ever recorded in this central province.

-- Mang But Commune, Quang Ngai Province was struck by up to 14 earthquakes from Sunday evening to early Monday morning, with magnitudes ranging from 2.5 to 4.9, according to the Vietnam Earthquake Information and Tsunami Warning Center.

-- Police in An Giang Province launched an urgent manhunt on Sunday after more than 300 drug addicts rioted and attacked officers to escape from the Kien Hao rehabilitation center in My Thuan Commune.

-- A fishing boat carrying 11 crew members from Gia Lai Province was struck and sunk by a South Korean-flagged oil tanker late Saturday night off Vietnam's south-central coast. Ten fishermen were rescued, while the captain remains missing and is believed to be trapped in the cabin.

-- Vietnam's leading private conglomerate Vingroup has submitted a proposal to the Ho Chi Minh City administration to study the construction of a sea-crossing bridge connecting Can Gio and Vung Tau under a build-transfer model, aiming to shorten travel time and boost coastal development.

-- To ensure safety amid storm Matmo, the Hanoi Department of Education and Training announced on Sunday afternoon that all students in the city will switch to online learning on Monday.
