Authorities in Da Nang City, central Vietnam have uncovered a facility involved in environmental violations and the sale of animal by-products of unclear origin, ordering the destruction of some 3.5 metric tons of animal fat and intestines.

The establishment, operated by Nguyen Thi Hong in Hoa Khanh Nam Ward in Lien Chieu District, was fined over VND126 million (US$4,830).

In mid-May, an inspection team led by the economic police division under the municipal Department of Public Security, in coordination with other relevant units, conducted an on-site inspection at the facility.

The facility, which specialized in processing animal products and by-products, was found to be operating without an exhaust gas treatment system, a mandatory requirement for household-scale production and service establishments, to trade products of unknown origin, and to discharge wastewater that exceeded permitted limits.

Officials ordered the destruction of 3,490 kilograms of confiscated materials, including 2,590 kilograms of pig and cow intestines, and 900 kilograms of animal fat.
