Da Nang will convert an unused restaurant and marina complex on Bach Dang Street along the Han River into a public space, a city official said on Tuesday, as the project has remained idle for years over legal issues involving its investor.

Vo Tan Ha, deputy director of the city’s construction department, said the site south of the Han River port in Hai Chau Ward will be repurposed under a plan approved by city authorities.

He said the project had drawn public concern over its impact on the urban landscape and public space along the Han River.

Authorities have since 2018 considered options including conversion for public use, integration with nearby Dien Hai Citadel or demolition.

The complex, built on more than 4,000 square meters and completed in 2017 by a company linked to businessman Phan Van Anh Vu, who was convicted in multiple corruption cases, has not been put into operation and remains closed.

The site is part of a broader plan to develop a central park area linking Dien Hai Citadel, the city’s administrative center, and the Han River waterfront.

The project management board is finalizing proposals and investment procedures for approval, Ha said.

Separately, the city’s finance department said Da Nang’s gross regional domestic product grew 8.45 percent in the first quarter of 2026 from a year earlier.
