The announcement was made at the company’s ‘The Energy of Change Summit 2026,’ its first such event in Asia.

GE Vernova said the planned transformer plant, expected to start operations in 2028, would be one of three globally alongside facilities in the United Kingdom and India.

The company also said it was involved in the commercial operation of the 1.6 gigawatt Nhon Trach 3 and 4 power plants, owned by PetroVietnam Power (PV Power), which use HA gas turbine technology and liquefied natural gas (LNG).

GE Vernova said it would supply 9HA.02 gas turbines and H78 generators to several LNG power projects in Vietnam, including the Quynh Lap LNG power project, the Hai Phong LNG plant developed with VinEnergo, part of Vingroup, and the Quang Trach II LNG project of state utility EVN.

Chief executive Scott Strazik said Vietnam was emerging as one of Asia’s fastest-growing economies and that GE Vernova aimed to support the country’s energy transition with gas turbine technology and HVDC transmission manufacturing capacity.

Vietnam’s Acting Minister of Industry and Trade Le Manh Hung said cooperation with international partners was important as the country seeks to meet rising energy demand while pursuing its net-zero emissions target by 2050.

U.S. Embassy Charge d’Affaires John W. McIntyre said the agreements reflected Vietnam’s dynamic energy market and highlighted energy cooperation as a key pillar of the U.S.-Vietnam comprehensive strategic partnership.
