This total, the highest ever recorded for a New Year break, included some 110,000 international arrivals, up nearly 290 percent, while domestic visitors numbered about 450,000, an increase of more than 240 percent.
Total tourism revenue for the holiday is estimated at VND2.1 trillion (US$80 million), up 254 percent from a year earlier.
Officials attributed the unprecedented growth to the extended holiday period, favorable weather, and the city’s diverse range of tourism offerings.
The Hanoi Department of Tourism highlighted that the blend of cultural heritage, traditional experiences, and modern technology gave the city a unique appeal for visitors.
Key attractions included the Temple of Literature, the former Hoa Lo Prison, the Imperial Citadel of Thang Long, Hanoi Zoo, and the ancient village of Duong Lam.
The city also staged a series of festive events to enrich visitor experiences.
Fireworks displays at five locations, artistic light installations around iconic Ho Guom (Sword Lake), the digital exhibition ‘Radiant Hanoi – Light and Heritage,’ countdown celebrations, and performances by domestic and international artists added to the holiday atmosphere.
High-tech cultural programs, such as the 3D mapping show ‘Thang Long Imperial Capital’ at the Imperial Citadel of Thang Long, provided a modern interpretation of Hanoi’s historical heritage.
Hotel occupancy averaged 73.8 percent, with luxury accommodations in the four- and five-star segment nearly fully booked, according to news site Vietnamnet.
Hotel de l’Opera Hanoi – Mgallery and Lacasa Hanoi Hotel both reached 99 percent occupancy, Muong Thanh Grand Xa La Hotel hit 98 percent, and Novotel Hanoi Thai Ha Hotel 93 percent.
Many hotels also offered special promotions and year-end activities, encouraging longer stays and higher spending.
The record turnout during this New Year holiday underscores Hanoi’s growing reputation as a vibrant cultural and leisure destination, capable of attracting both domestic and international travelers with innovative offerings and rich historical heritage.
