Hanoi to offer free admission to tourist attractions, historic sites on National Day
Hanoi will waive admission fees at tourist attractions, historic sites, and cultural facilities across the city on National Day (September 2).
The Office of the Hanoi People’s Committee has issued a dispatch on providing free admission to tourist attractions, historic sites, and cultural facilities that normally charge entrance fees on National Day.
The move follows a proposal from the municipal Department of Culture, Sports, and Tourism to waive admission fees at these sites.
The department was tasked with coordinating with the municipal Department of Finance to guide relevant agencies and units in implementing the policy, ensuring that eligibility is clearly defined and that the process is transparent and compliant with regulations.
The two departments are responsible for working with relevant agencies to review and propose principles, criteria, and mechanisms for waiving admission fees at city-managed tourist attractions, historic sites, and cultural facilities.
Besides, Hanoi is set to organize a range of cultural and artistic programs, as well as thematic exhibitions, to serve residents and visitors during the celebrations marking the 81st anniversary of the August Revolution (August 19) and National Day.
Free admission on National Day, along with various cultural and artistic activities, is aimed at exciting residents and visitors while helping showcase the capital’s historical and cultural heritage.
Civil servants and public employees in Vietnam will enjoy a five-day National Day break this year following a workday swap.
Under Vietnam's 2019 Labor Code, employees are entitled to 11 fully paid public holidays each year.
These include one day for New Year's Day, five days for the Lunar New Year, one day for the Hung Kings Commemoration Day, one day for Reunification Day on April 30, one day for International Workers' Day on May 1, and two days for National Day.
For Vietnam's National Day 2026, the two official days off fall on Tuesday, September 1 and Wednesday, September 2.
As Monday, August 31 falls between the weekend and the two public holidays, it will be swapped with a working Saturday to create a longer continuous break.
The August 31 working day will therefore be moved to Saturday, August 22, linking the two holidays with the preceding weekend, according to the Ministry of Home Affairs.
The break will run for five consecutive days, from Saturday, August 29 through Wednesday, September 2.
