Hanoi to temporarily ban traffic on multiple roads late this week

Hanoi authorities will temporarily ban and restrict traffic on dozens of major roads on Friday and Saturday to serve the 11th National Patriotic Emulation Congress, with police urging road users to strictly follow traffic laws and give way to priority vehicles.

The municipal police agency on Wednesday evening announced traffic control plans to support the congress, which will take place on Friday and Saturday at the National Convention Center and the Quan Ngua Sports Palace.

As per the plan, traffic restrictions and temporary bans will be enforced from 1:30 pm to 11:00 pm on Friday and from 6:30 am to 12:30 pm on Saturday.

Vehicles subject to the ban include trucks with a designed gross weight of 1.5 metric tons or more and passenger vehicles with 16 seats or more.

Exemptions apply to public buses, garbage trucks, emergency and incident-response vehicles, vehicles with security permits, police and military vehicles, and other priority vehicles as stipulated by law.

Other vehicles will also face traffic limitations during the restricted periods.

The affected routes include major arteries and central streets such as Pham Hung Street, Thang Long Boulevard (sections adjacent to the National Convention Center), Do Duc Duc, Mieu Dam, Lieu Giai, Van Cao (sections adjacent to Quan Ngua Sports Palace), Tran Duy Hung, Nguyen Chi Thanh, Kim Ma, Nguyen Thai Hoc, Tran Phu, Hung Vuong, Chu Van An, Dien Bien Phu, Nguyen Tri Phuong, Doc Lap, Hoang Van Thu, Nghi Tam, Thanh Nien, Hoang Hoa Tham, Van Phuc, Le Hong Phong, Hoang Dieu, Le Duan, Hang Long, Tran Binh Trong, Tran Nhan Tong, Tran Hung Dao, Trang Thi, Pham Ngoc Thach, and Dao Duy Anh.

Hanoi police urged road users to strictly comply with traffic laws.

When encountering priority vehicles using sirens or signals while on duty, road users are required to promptly pull over to the right-hand side of the road or turn into the nearest side street or intersection as directed by traffic officers.

To minimize congestion, authorities have also announced alternative routes.

Vehicles traveling from eastern provinces, cities such as Hai Phong, Hung Yen, and Bac Ninh to northern and northwestern provinces including Phu Tho, Thai Nguyen, and Tuyen Quang are advised to use the Thanh Tri Bridge, the Hanoi-Bac Giang Expressway, and National Highway 18.

Vehicles heading from eastern provinces, cities to western and northwestern provinces such as Son La and Dien Bien should follow routes via the Thanh Tri Bridge, Do Muoi Street, Ngoc Hoi, Phan Trong Tue, Cau Buou, Phuc La, Van Khe, Quang Trung, and National Highway 6, or alternatively via Ngoc Hoi, National Highway 1A, Provincial Road 427, National Highway 21B, and National Highway 6.

For traffic traveling from Vo Van Kiet Road or the Thang Long Bridge toward Thang Long Boulevard, the recommended detour is Pham Van Dong Street, Ho Tung Mau, Cau Dien, National Highway 32, Provincial Road 70, and then Thang Long Boulevard.
