Ho Chi Minh City approves $296mn project to tackle flooding, wastewater in 8 wards

The project will cover eight wards, including Dong Hung Thuan, Trung My Tay, Tan Thoi Hiep, An Hoi Tay, Tan Son, Tay Thanh, Tan Son Nhi and Binh Hung Hoa, across an area of around 528,000 square meters.

The project will be managed by the Ho Chi Minh City Urban Infrastructure Construction Investment Project Management Board.

It is scheduled to be carried out from 2024 to 2029.

The project aims to improve drainage and wastewater systems, reduce environmental pollution and flooding, and enhance the area's ability to adapt to climate change and reduce related risks.

The total investment includes around VND5.055 trillion ($194.7 million) in loans from the Asian Development Bank and VND2.632 trillion ($101.3 million) in counterpart funding.

According to the approval dossier, the project will not require land acquisition.

The project management board will review and determine all land-use requirements and address any arising issues.

The municipal administration said the project management board and consultants are legally responsible for the accuracy of the information and figures in the appraisal dossier.

The director of the Urban Infrastructure Construction Investment Project Management Board is responsible for the project implementation in accordance with regulations.

The board has also been instructed to urgently prepare and submit documents for appraisal of adjustments to relevant detailed zoning plans to accommodate the project.

If the project extends beyond 2029 for objective reasons and its implementation period is officially adjusted, the project management board must submit additional project management costs to the municipal Department of Construction for appraisal.
