Seeking a private and comfortable way to watch Vietnam’s 50th Reunification Day parade, a local family paid VND30 million (US$1,153) per night to rent a presidential suite at a 5-star hotel in central Ho Chi Minh City.

Tran Vu Tra My, 23, said the experience of viewing the April 30 parade from above Nguyen Hue Pedestrian Street was unforgettable.

"Outside, there was the proud, united spirit of the nation; inside, I had my family, including my grandmother, to reflect on history together," she said.

"It was emotional to witness peace in this way."

The suite, spanning 200 square meters and furnished with high-end interiors, offered a panoramic view of the parade route and the aerial military display, including helicopters and fighter jets flying over the city on Wednesday.

The elevated vantage point also gave a full view of iconic city landmarks such as the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee building.

My said the decision to book the suite was mainly to ensure comfort for her 85-year-old grandmother, whose health made it difficult to stand for long periods.

"It was worth it to give her a meaningful and comfortable experience on this historic day," she added.

As parade formations passed below, family members took turns standing near the suite's large windows to enjoy the view.

A short video shows an aerial display during the Reunification Day parade, filmed from a presidential suite booked by Tran Vu Tra My’s family.

"We could see everything clearly—from the marching units and cheering crowds to the jet fighters overhead. It was spectacular," she said.

Her grandmother, who regards April 30 as a sacred milestone, was deeply moved by the moment.

"She stood silently for a while, then said, 'It's been a long time since I've felt this kind of pride,'" My recalled.

While acknowledging that being on the street would offer a more energetic atmosphere, My said viewing from the suite was a practical choice due to health concerns.

Ho Chi Minh City has become the focal point of national celebrations marking the 50th anniversary of the liberation of southern Vietnam and national reunification.

According to city officials, hotel occupancy rates across the downtown area reached 95 percent to 100 percent in the lead-up to the event, with 4- and 5-star hotels fully booked from April 27 to May 1.

Many locals, not just tourists, also chose to book hotel rooms to view fireworks, drone shows, and military parades — some even during the early rehearsals and preview runs.

Hotels on the outskirts of the city also reported occupancy rates exceeding 80 percent during the anniversary period, according to Ho Chi Minh City's Department of Tourism.
