Ho Chi Minh City ward turns vacant public lots into mini parks

Tran Duc Minh, vice-chairman of the ward’s administration, said on Tuesday that the ward had completed its ‘Green Space - Community Connection’ project.

Under the initiative, small and unused state-owned plots were converted into green areas and public gathering spots.

The ward invested in grass lawns, trees, benches, lighting, and outdoor exercise equipment.

Authorities also worked to eliminate illegal dumping and land encroachment, ensuring cleaner and safer spaces.

The official said the project enhances residents’ quality of life, improves the neighborhood’s appearance, and makes more efficient use of public land.

It also creates community hubs that encourage social interaction.

Binh Tan Ward plans to maintain and upgrade the completed parks while surveying additional unused plots for future conversions.

Local authorities are calling on organizations, businesses, and residents to participate in maintaining and protecting the new spaces, fostering a spirit of community self-management.
