Vietnam’s northern region and north-central Thanh Hoa Province may experience a significant rainfall event from Wednesday evening through Thursday, according to the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting.

Moderate to heavy rain and thunderstorms are expected to occur across the region, with widespread rainfall between 30-80mm.

Some areas may see intense downpours of over 100mm in just three hours.

With recent rains resulting in soil saturation, the risk of flash floods and landslides in mountainous areas remains high, alongside potential flooding in low-lying urban, residential, and industrial zones.

From now to Wednesday, northern Vietnam will continue to see scattered showers and thunderstorms, particularly along the coastal areas.

The national weather center added that tidal water levels are rising in the eastern coastal part of southern Vietnam.

On Monday, the tide at Vung Tau station peaked at 3.74m at 12:30 am.

From late Tuesday afternoon through Wednesday, tidal levels are expected to rise further, potentially peaking at 3.9-4.0m at Vung Tau station in Ba Ria-Vung Tau Province.

High tides may lead to flooding in low-lying coastal, riverside, and unprotected areas in southeastern provinces.

The rising water also increases the risk of saltwater intrusion into local river systems.
