The National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting said that one to two tropical storms or depressions could develop in the East Vietnam Sea in the second half of August.

Northern, Central Highlands, and southern provinces will likely continue to experience thunderstorms and localized heavy rain, especially in the evenings.

The agency highlighted two major weather patterns that may emerge over the next 10 days.

Firstly, a tropical convergence zone is expected to form over the central East Vietnam Sea around Thursday, possibly developing into a low-pressure area and then a tropical depression.

Winds of level 6 (39-49 kph) on the Beaufort scale, gusting at level 7-8 (50-74 kph), and waves 2-3 meters high may affect the waters from Khanh Hoa to Ca Mau Provinces and the southern East Vietnam Sea, including the west of Vietnam’s Truong Sa (Spratly) special zone.

By Friday, strong winds and storms could extend to the Gulf of Tonkin.

Heavy showers and thunderstorms are expected to occur in the Gulf of Thailand and coastal waters from Ca Mau to An Giang Provinces, with waves sometimes exceeding three meters.

Secondly, from now until August 19, due to the tropical convergence zone linked to the low-pressure area, the northeast region, the central localities from Thanh Hoa to Hue, the Central Highlands, and the south are expected to face moderate to heavy rain.

Mountainous areas may see landslides and flash floods, while low-lying urban areas are at high risk of flooding.

The national weather agency advises residents to stay updated on forecasts and heed safety warnings in the coming days.
