Magnitude-3.6 earthquake hits Vietnam’s Quang Ngai

A magnitude-3.6 earthquake struck Mang But Commune in Quang Ngai Province, central Vietnam on Saturday evening, with a focal depth of about eight kilometers, according to the Institute of Earth Sciences.

Nguyen Xuan Anh, head of the institute, confirmed that the quake occurred at around 6:20 pm.

Residents in several communes and wards in the province reported feeling mild shaking for between three and five seconds.

The tremor posed no disaster risk, according to the institute.

The Vietnam Earthquake Information and Tsunami Warning Center under the institute is continuing to monitor seismic activity in the province.

At noon on the same day, another smaller earthquake with a magnitude of 2.7 was recorded in the commune.

This tremor also posed no risk.

In Vietnam, earthquakes measuring between 3 and 3.9 on the Richter scale are categorized as weak.

Although residents may feel these quakes and observe light movement of household objects, they rarely cause any harm.
