Pickup truck mounts sidewalk, fatally hits man in Vietnam's Lam Dong

The fatal accident occurred at around 8:30 am on the Ho Chi Minh Road section near the Gia Nghia interprovincial bus station.

The pickup truck was driven by 24-year-old Ly Trung Thuy, a resident of Quang Khe Commune in Lam Dong.

The truck was traveling on the road when Thuy drove it onto the sidewalk and hit the man who was sitting there.

Security camera footage from a nearby house showed the front of the truck striking the man head-on and knocking him underneath the vehicle, which continued moving over him.

The man was then seen sitting up and talking with someone.

After hitting the man, the driver stopped the vehicle and got out before walking across the road.

As seen in the video, the driver initially appeared not to have realized that he had struck someone sitting on the sidewalk.

The victim subsequently collapsed.

After realizing what had happened, the driver, with the help of local residents, quickly took the victim to a nearby hospital for emergency treatment, but he later died from severe injuries.

According to the Nam Gia Nghia administration, the victim was homeless, and his identity and background have yet to be determined, Thanh Nien (Young People) newspaper reported.

Local police are investigating the accident.
