Nguyen Manh Cuong, vice-chairman of the municipal People’s Committee and head of the city’s Steering Committee 515, inspected the site on Thursday, alongside Major General Nguyen Thanh Trung, Political Commissar of the Ho Chi Minh City High Command, and architect Nguyen Xuan Thang.
The delegation also outlined the next phase of the search operation.
The decision to enlarge the search zone was based on survey data and testimonies from witnesses describing the dimensions of a mass grave believed to contain the remains of soldiers who died during the 1968 Tet General Offensive and Uprising.
Search teams are carefully removing soil layer by layer, as witness accounts indicate that the burials were carried out in multiple layers.
The search area is expected to be expanded even further as the operation progresses and additional evidence is assessed.

According to Ho Chi Minh City’s Steering Committee 515, search teams have found 11 sets of fallen soldiers’ remains, along with numerous personal artifacts.
Among the recovered remains, those believed to belong to martyr Huynh Van Quen have provided the clearest identification.
DNA samples have been collected and are being compared with samples provided by his family members in Vam Co Commune in Tay Ninh Province, a neighbor of Ho Chi Minh City.
