According to the national weather center, Kalmaegi formed in the eastern waters of the Philippines and is currently moving westward toward the country.
Kalmaegi is projected to become a strong storm, reaching its peak intensity near Vietnam’s Truong Sa (Spratly) Special Zone, potentially exceeding level 12 (118-133 kph).
The storm could move toward or make landfall along Vietnam’s central coast on November 7, with the provinces from Da Nang to Khanh Hoa identified as the most likely to experience direct impacts.
The storm may bring powerful winds and heavy rainfall to the central, south-central, and Central Highlands regions from November 6 to 9.
Meteorologists noted that Kalmaegi’s future path and strength remain uncertain due to the influence of large-scale weather systems and the terrain it will cross as it moves over the Philippines.
Therefore, forecasts regarding the storm’s trajectory, intensity, and impact zone will continue to be updated in the coming days.
Before the storm arrives, heavy rainfall is expected from Ha Tinh to Da Nang and in eastern Quang Ngai from now until Tuesday.
The rainfall is caused by a combination of enhanced cold air, a tropical convergence zone stretching across the south-central region, and strong easterly winds at altitudes of 1,500-5,000 meters.
These localities may see total rainfall of 300-600 mm, with some areas exceeding 800 mm.
