At 7:00 am on Saturday, Maysak was centered about 70 kilometers east-southeast of Bach Long Vi Special Zone, an island off Hai Phong City in northern Vietnam, and around 170 kilometers southeast of Quang Ninh, according to the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting.

Maximum sustained winds near the center reached 62-88 kph, with gusts of up to 110 kph.

The storm was moving northwest at 15-20 kph.

Over the next 12 hours, Maysak is expected to continue moving north-northwest at around 15 kph toward the waters off Quang Ninh.

By 7:00 pm on Saturday, the storm's center is forecast to reach the Vietnam-China border area with similar intensity.

From Saturday evening into the early hours of Sunday, the storm is expected to move north, make landfall in the Quang Ninh-Guangxi area, and weaken into a tropical depression.

Due to the storm's influence, the Gulf of Tonkin, including the special zones of Bach Long Vi, Van Don, Co To, Cat Hai and Hon Dau Island, is experiencing 39-61kph winds, with gusts up to 110 kph and rough seas.

From Saturday afternoon, coastal areas of Quang Ninh, Hai Phong and Hung Yen could experience gusts up to 75-100 kph. Storm surge is forecast at 0.2-0.4 meters, with waves reaching 2-3 meters.

Authorities warned that strong winds could damage roofs, temporary structures, trees, billboards, power infrastructure, telecommunications systems and transportation networks.

Large waves combined with storm surge may also cause localized flooding in estuaries, tidal flats and low-lying coastal areas.

From Saturday to Sunday, northeastern Vietnam and Thanh Hoa Province are forecast to receive rainfall of 100-200 mm.

Northeastern provinces may receive 200-300 mm, with isolated areas exceeding 500 mm.

Heavy rainfall may trigger urban flooding, flash floods, and landslides in mountainous regions.

The national weather agency also cautioned of thunderstorms, whirlwinds, and strong gusts both before and during Maysak’s landfall.
