According to the commune’s administration, the incident occurred at around 3:30 pm, with the victim identified only as S., a resident of the province’s Yen Minh Commune.

Local police, border guards, medical staff, and residents quickly coordinated a rescue after the incident was discovered, bringing the tourist to safety and providing first aid.

Tran Duc Chung of the commune’s administration told Tuoi Tre (Youth) online newspaper that the tourist had climbed onto a concrete railing to take photos before losing his footing.

The cliff below is about 300 meters deep.

The man rolled down the mountainside, where vegetation helped cushion his fall.

When rescuers reached him, he was still conscious and reportedly could not understand why he had fallen.

He sustained minor injuries, including a few scratches and neck pain.

After receiving first aid at the scene, he was taken to a medical facility for further examination.

Following the incident, local authorities urged visitors to obey safety signs and instructions, as well as avoid walking or taking photos near cliffs, steep slopes, and deep ravines.

Visitors were also reminded to follow regulations in border areas, including not approaching border fences without authorization or operating drones without the required permits.

Tuyen Quang is entering its peak tourism season, with the 2026 Buckwheat Flower Festival scheduled to run from October 25 through the end of December.

During the festival’s opening period, visitor numbers in Lung Cu have risen sharply.

More than 1,000 rooms across the commune have been fully booked, particularly in Lo Lo Chai, a village recognized as one of the world’s best tourism villages.
