A man who used an unauthorized medical degree to practice medicine at a clinic in Ca Mau Province, southern Vietnam treated more than 4,500 patients before being exposed.

The Ca Mau Social Security Office said on Thursday that it had reported the case of Nguyen Xuan Hung to relevant authorities.

Hung had been practicing at Y Duc Sai Gon General Clinic in Ho Thi Ky Commune under Ca Mau, using a medical qualification later determined to be illegitimate.

According to the report, Hung worked at the clinic from January to May 2025.

During this period, he conducted 4,544 patient consultations, with the cost of services totaling more than VND1.3 billion ($49,310).

He resigned from the clinic after his fraudulent credentials were uncovered.

The University of Medicine and Pharmacy-Ho Chi Minh City had previously sent a dispatch to the Ca Mau Department of Health, confirming that the specialized internal medicine diploma Hung had submitted was not found in the university's records of issued degrees.
