According to Vietnam's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Lam has recently received letters and messages of congratulation from leaders of numerous countries and political parties, including Trump.
In his message, the U.S. president said Lam's continued leadership comes at an important time, as Vietnam and the U.S. seek to build on the positive momentum achieved in bilateral ties in recent years.
He expressed optimism that the two sides would soon make meaningful progress toward a reciprocal, fair, and balanced trade agreement, contributing to shared prosperity for both countries, which upgraded their ties to a comprehensive strategic partnership in September 2023.
Trump welcomed Vietnam's decision to join the U.S.-led Board of Peace overseeing the implementation of the Gaza peace plan adopted by the United Nations Security Council under Resolution 2803 in November last year.
He expressed appreciation for Vietnam's role and for bilateral cooperation in promoting peace and safeguarding freedom, sovereignty, and independence in the Indo-Pacific region and beyond.
Trump said he believes relations will continue to expand across a wide range of areas, including economy and trade, security, defense and people-to-people exchanges, and expressed his wish to welcome Lam to the U.S. at an appropriate time.
Congratulatory messages were also sent by leaders from across the region and beyond.
Secretary-General of Singapore's People's Action Party and Prime Minister Lawrence Wong said Lam's re-election reflects the confidence of the Party and people of Vietnam in his leadership, as well as the recognition of his contributions to economic growth, social development, and deeper regional and international integration.
Wong described the elevation of Vietnam-Singapore ties to a comprehensive strategic partnership during Lam's official visit to Singapore in March 2025 as a key milestone that has created fresh momentum for bilateral cooperation.
He expressed confidence that Vietnam will continue to prosper under Lam's leadership and said he looks forward to close coordination with Vietnam on bilateral, regional, and global issues.
Thai Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul, in a message sent on behalf of the Thai government and people, congratulated the successful conclusion of Vietnam's 14th National Party Congress and Lam's re-election.
He expressed confidence that Vietnam will continue to develop strongly and play a more prominent role regionally and globally, saying he looks forward to working closely with Lam to further strengthen the Vietnam-Thailand comprehensive strategic partnership ahead of the 50th anniversary of diplomatic ties in 2026.
South Korean President Lee Jae Myung also extended his congratulations, highlighting the growing depth and breadth of the Vietnam-South Korea comprehensive strategic partnership, underpinned by active high-level exchanges and strong public support in both countries.
He said Lam's re-election provides a solid foundation for the two sides to continue implementing existing agreements and deepen cooperation, contributing to peace, stability, and prosperity in the region and beyond.
Other congratulatory messages were sent by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, Timor-Leste President Jose Ramos-Horta, Jordan's King Abdullah II ibn Al Hussein, Chairman of the Communist Party of the Russian Federation Gennady Zyuganov, Chairman of the A Just Russia Party Sergei Mironov, and Chairman of the Japanese Communist Party Shii Kazuo.
