Vietnam’s under-23 national team opened their campaign at the 2026 AFC U23 Asian Cup with a 2-0 win over Jordan in their Group A match in Saudi Arabia on Tuesday.

Nguyen Dinh Bac put Vietnam ahead in the 11th minute from the penalty spot after a handball was confirmed by video assistant referee.

Nguyen Hieu Minh doubled the lead in the 42nd minute with a close-range finish.

Jordan pushed for a response in the second half but were unable to score, leaving Vietnam with three points early in the tournament.

The 16-team tournament, held in Saudi Arabia from Tuesday to January 24, features four groups of four teams, with the top two in each group advancing to the quarterfinals.

Vietnam are in Group A with hosts Saudi Arabia, Jordan, and Kyrgyzstan.

Vietnam's next group match is against Kyrgyzstan on Friday, with the final group game against Saudi Arabia scheduled for January 12.
