Investigators said Doan Van Sang, 57, a former deputy chief of Market Surveillance Team No. 4, was detained on murder charges after police identified him as the suspect in the death of Nguyen Xuan Dat, 36, from Hung Yen Province.
Police said they opened the case after images and a video circulating on social media suggested a possible homicide.

According to the ministry, Sang met Dat through social media around 2020 and asked him to come to the team’s office on January 25, 2025, when Sang allegedly killed him.
Police said Sang attempted to erase evidence and dispose of the body before the case was uncovered.

Lang Son police opened a criminal investigation last Friday and issued an arrest warrant and indictment for Sang the following day after approvals from provincial prosecutors.
Officers later searched his residence and the former team office, where they conducted a forensic examination.
Police said the investigation is continuing.
