Vietnam joins global iPhone 17 launch for the first time, retailers report record demand

Vietnamese consumers previously had to wait days or weeks after global launches to receive new iPhone models. 

This year, the iPhone 17 and iPhone Air became available in Vietnam on the same day as in other major markets.

Retailers reported significant pre‑order volumes.

FPT Retail, which operates FPT Shop and F.Studio by FPT, said it had delivered a large number of pre‑ordered units Friday and was continuing to accept new orders. 

"Models such as the iPhone 17 Pro Max and the iPhone Air are among those in high demand," said Phan Tran Thanh, deputy head of Apple products at FPT Shop and F.Studio.

TopZone reported nearly 100,000 pre‑orders within the first 24 hours, topping its previous iPhone 16 launch results, and said 600 customers collected devices at its launch‑event on Friday.

Di Dong Viet said it received about 27,000 pre‑orders during the early deposit period. 

The company said foot traffic at its stores had roughly doubled compared with normal days.

Minh Tuan Mobile said it distributed over 300 iPhone 17 units on Friday morning and received 18,000 pre‑orders during the first week — about 12 percent more than the comparable period for the iPhone 16 launch.

CellphoneS said it held ten simultaneous launch events in major Vietnamese cities including Ho Chi Minh City, Hanoi and Da Nang. 

The retailer said both online and in‑store customers were given estimated delivery times when they placed their orders.
