Vietnam won 18 individual medals, including six golds, four silvers, and eight bronzes, placing it on par with Singapore at the top of the standings, according to the organizers.
The contest took place from August 14 to 18 at the Vietnam-Korea University of Information and Communication Technology, part of the University of Da Nang.
It gathered more than 553 contestants from 29 countries and territories, along with the host team from Vietnam.
Organized to international standards, the competition featured two divisions, Key Stage II (Grades 5-6) and Key Stage III (Grades 7-8), with both individual and team rounds, according to the Vietnam News Agency.
Awards were presented in three main categories—individual, team, and overall national delegation—along with additional honors such as the Cultural Exchange Award, Games Award, and Best Individual Award.
At the closing ceremony, Mai Quang Huy, a member of the VIMC 2025 judging panel, said this year's exam was more challenging than in previous editions, spanning a wide range of mathematical fields.
He stated that success required not only accuracy but also creativity, noting that "many problems were approached from multiple perspectives, demonstrating the students' flexible and innovative thinking."
Tran Anh Tuan, deputy chairman of the Da Nang administration, stressed that the competition was not only a test of intellect but also a chance for cultural exchange, friendship among participating nations, and the spread of passion for knowledge.
He expressed confidence that contestants would leave with not only their achievements but also international friendships and lasting memories in Da Nang, a city of peace, creativity, and integration.
The International Mathematics Competition is held annually on a rotational basis among member countries.
At the closing ceremony, the organizers handed the hosting flag for the 2026 edition to the delegation from Mongolia, marking the next chapter of the contest.
Regarded as one of the world's most prestigious mathematics competitions for upper elementary and middle students, the IMC offers participants the opportunity to compete, sharpen their skills, and nurture creativity and research in an international academic environment, according to Da Nang News.
