Vietnamese electric taxi operator Green SM launches service in US

The U.S. is the Vietnamese company's ninth market and its first in North America.

Green SM, a subsidiary of Vingroup, is expanding its international operations more than three years after its establishment in Vietnam.

Since October 13 (local time), Los Angeles residents have been able to book Green SM rides through its app or hotline, or hail its vehicles directly on the street.

Green SM's U.S. fleet consists entirely of VinFast VF 8 electric vehicles.

The company said it would gradually expand its service network to meet demand for daily travel, long-distance trips and airport transfers.

Hoang Thanh Hang, Green SM's CEO in the U.S., said entering the American market was an important milestone in the company's international expansion strategy.

According to Hang, competition in the electric transportation sector depends not only on vehicles but also on service quality, drivers and the ability to build customer trust.

Following the launch, Green SM plans to continue investing in its fleet and technology while recruiting and training local drivers to expand its operations in Los Angeles.

Established in 2023, Green SM now operates in Vietnam, Laos, Indonesia, the Philippines, India, Kazakhstan, Denmark, the Netherlands and the United States.
