Pham Thu Hang, spokesperson of the Vietnamese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, emphasized the authorities’ enforcement action against a group of foreigners dwelling in the country illegally, when asked about a widely circulated video showing a confrontation between Vietnamese security forces and Nigerian nationals at a regular press briefing in Hanoi on Thursday.

“According to information from the relevant authorities, these are foreign nationals living unlawfully in Vietnam and violating Vietnamese law,” said Hang.

“Vietnam’s law enforcement agencies were determined to handle the case in line with the Vietnamese law and relevant international regulations.”

Hang stated that Vietnam maintains a consistent policy of creating favorable conditions for foreigners to enter, reside, study, work, invest, explore the market, and travel in the country.

She noted that such activities contribute positively to Vietnam's socio-economic development and promote people-to-people exchange between Vietnam and other nations.

“Like in all countries, foreigners entering, exiting, or residing in Vietnam must fully comply with Vietnamese law,” she stated.

Footage circulating online shows a group of Nigerian nationals involved in violent actions against Vietnamese mobile police forces.

These foreigners in the video are seen throwing bricks and using fire extinguishers against the Vietnamese officers.
