Vietnam’s cashless payment platform Zalopay has officially expanded its ‘International QR Scan’ feature to China, completing a network of six Asian countries, where users can now pay with ease using Vietnamese dong.
The feature had previously been launched in Singapore, Japan, South Korea, Malaysia, and Indonesia.
With this service, Vietnamese tourists and business travelers can make payments directly from the Zalopay app at shopping centers, tourist attractions, restaurants and shops, without needing to convert currency or register for international credit cards.
The payment process is simple. Users just open the Zalopay app, select the ‘QR Scanning’ feature, switch the area to the destination country, and scan the QR code at the point of sale.
Le Lan Chi, CEO of Zalopay, said that expanding this feature to China provides Vietnamese users with a more convenient and uninterrupted payment experience wherever they go.
“It is a strategic step in reinforcing our role as a reliable financial companion and lays the groundwork for expanding our services into even more countries in the future,” she said.
Zalopay aims to introduce a feature enabling international tourists in Vietnam to pay via QR using Visa and Mastercard cards issued from any country by the end of 2025.
“In the near future, users will be able to use Zalopay to scan QR codes not just for payments, but for everyday functions such as scanning QR codes for Wi-Fi access, bank card information, or even license plates to immediately settle traffic fines,” said Tran Ba Khoi Nguyen, chairman of Zalopay.
