Vietnam's Military Region 5 mobilizes armored vehicles, speedboats, full personnel for storm Fengshen response

Military Region 5 has ordered all subordinate units to maintain a 24-hour readiness posture and prepare armored vehicles, speedboats, and personnel to assist residents as storm Fengshen approaches central Vietnam’s coast.

The Military Region 5 Command is responsible for organizing, building, managing, and commanding the armed forces in five central and Central Highlands localities, including Da Nang, Dak Lak, Gia Lai, Khanh Hoa, and Quang Ngai.

On Wednesday morning, Colonel Phan Dai Nghia, Deputy Commander and Chief of Staff of Military Region 5, inspected evacuation areas in Hoa Khanh Ward, Da Nang and directed units to implement the ‘four-on-the-spot’ principle, which means on-site command, manpower, logistics, and equipment, to ensure rapid disaster response.

He emphasized that forces must stay alert in flood-prone zones and be ready to help residents evacuate or safeguard property at any time.

The Da Nang Military Command has ordered all forces to remain on full alert from 5:00 pm on Wednesday to 5:00 pm on October 30, ready to mobilize for rescue and relief operations.

The Da Nang Militia Fleet has been instructed to work with Navy Region 3 under the Vietnam People's Navy to move vessels to safe anchorages, while Armored Battalion 699 under the Da Nang Military Command has prepared vehicles and crews for deployment when required.

Border guards have issued warnings for fishing boats to seek shelter and will impose sea bans based on storm conditions to ensure safety.

Meanwhile, in Quang Ngai Province, Major General Luu Xuan Phuong, Deputy Chief of Staff of Military Region 5, on Wednesday morning inspected storm preparedness and ordered units to remain vigilant, with equipment and personnel on standby.

The Quang Ngai Military Command has established rapid-response teams with over 100 soldiers, equipped with speedboats, armored carriers, and life vests, ready to conduct evacuation and rescue missions.

Storm Fengshen is the 12th storm to affect the East Vietnam Sea this year.

As of 4:00 pm on Wednesday, the storm’s center was about 200 kilometers east-northeast of Da Nang, packing maximum sustained winds of 75-88 kph, gusting at 103-117 kph, according to the national weather agency.

The storm was traveling westward at around 10 kph.
