Vietnam’s National Day holiday to last 4 days this year

Public employees and workers in Vietnam will enjoy a four-day holiday to mark National Day (September 2) this year.

The 2025 National Day break begins on Saturday, August 30, and runs through Tuesday, September 2.

The holiday includes the two official days off for National Day, as stipulated by law, along with the weekend (Saturday and Sunday), bringing the total to four consecutive days off.

Under the 2019 Labor Code, workers in Vietnam are entitled to 11 fully paid days off for public holidays annually.

These include one day for New Year, five days for the Lunar New Year (Tet), one day for the Hung Kings Commemoration Day (the 10th day of the third lunar month), one day each for Reunification Day (April 30) and International Workers' Day (May 1), and two days for National Day (September 2).

Foreign employees working in Vietnam are granted an additional day off for their home country’s National Day and one traditional New Year holiday specific to their culture.

In 2025, public officials, civil servants, and workers across Vietnam will have a total of 22 days off, comprising the 11 official holidays and 11 additional days through schedule adjustments and compensatory leave.

For agencies and organizations that do not follow a fixed weekend schedule, vacation time should be arranged based on their specific operational plans.

These units are required to announce their holiday schedules at least 30 days in advance.

Employers are permitted flexibility in managing the National Day break.

They may choose to observe the holiday on Tuesday, September 2, and allow workers to take either Monday, September 1, or Wednesday, September 3, off, depending on business needs.

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh has directed all agencies and departments to ensure that staffing and operations remain efficient during the holiday period.

This includes designating personnel to remain on duty to handle emergencies or urgent matters.

The government leader also encouraged firms, organizations, and individuals to proactively engage in economic and social activities during the holiday to help maintain market stability in terms of supply, demand, and pricing.

These efforts are intended to promote economic growth, reduce waste, and support the successful implementation of Vietnam’s 2025 development goals.
