Along Nguyen Truc Street, a main access road for hundreds of households, garbage is scattered on both sides of the road, with overflowing bins blocking traffic and emitting strong odors.

Some waste has been burned on sidewalks, sending up smoke and acrid smells, residents said.

Residents have called for the relocation of the site away from populated areas, citing health and environmental concerns.

Nguyen Thi Thanh, head of residential group 23, said some people burn waste to collect recyclable materials, further degrading air quality.

She added that the area has seen growth in tourism facilities in recent years, while the presence of waste has affected the local environment.

"I have often seen foreign tourists picking up trash around their accommodations," Thanh said.
