The National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting said that a combination of intensifying cold air, a tropical convergence zone, and strong easterly disturbances could bring widespread rain over the next few days.
Between Friday and Saturday, areas from southern Quang Tri to Hue City may see rainfall between 70 and 150 millimeters, locally exceeding 250 millimeters.
From Saturday night to Sunday, the regions from Nghe An to northern Quang Tri could receive 100 to 200 millimeters, with isolated areas surpassing 350 millimeters.
Southern Quang Tri to Quang Ngai may see 50 to 150 millimeters, with localized rainfall over 250 millimeters.
Heavy rain across central Vietnam is forecast to persist until around Tuesday next week.
Between now and Sunday, floods are likely on rivers from Nghe An to Quang Tri.
Peak levels on upstream rivers such as the Ca River in Nghe An, the Ngan Sau and Ngan Pho Rivers in Ha Tinh, and the Gianh, Kien Giang, and Thach Han Rivers in Quang Tri are predicted to reach alarm levels 2 or 3, with some exceeding level 3.
Downstream sections of the Ca and La Rivers could rise above level 1.
Authorities have warned of potential flooding in low-lying, riverside, and urban areas from Nghe An to Quang Tri.
"From November 2 to 4, floods on rivers from Ha Tinh to Quang Ngai may rise again," the center stated, adding that while another extreme flood like that of October 27-29 is unlikely, forecasts beyond several days remain uncertain and should be closely followed.
On Thursday, rainfall in provinces and cities from Hue to Quang Ngai eased, leading to falling water levels on the Vu Gia-Thu Bon River in Da Nang and the Bo and Huong Rivers in Hue.
Floodwaters are expected to continue receding through Friday but remain 0.35 to 0.6 meters above alarm level 2 on the Thu Bon, Huong, and Bo Rivers, and about 0.6 meters above alarm level 1 on the Vu Gia River.
Widespread flooding in Da Nang is gradually subsiding, while Hue is expected to see faster improvement over the next one to two days.
